Stretch and Abrasion
A print on a stretch fabric has to move with the garment. Pull the fabric across the printed area and watch for hairline cracks along the direction of the stretch. Abrasion matters for areas that rub, such as a print near a seatbelt path or under a bag strap, where ink lifts away as a fine powder rather than a flake.

How Many Washes and What to Photograph
Wash the sample five times using the same temperature and detergent each cycle, and photograph the printed area before the first wash and after each one. Keep the garment flat and lit the same way for every photo, because a change in lighting looks like a change in colour.
Testing Without a Lab

Reading the Results

Fading, Cracking and Peeling
Fading means the ink lost colour, which points to insufficient bonding or a poor pretreatment step. Cracking means the film broke along a fold, which points to a cure problem or a fabric that moves more than the ink can. Peeling means the print lifted off the surface entirely, which usually indicates the wrong process for that fabric. Colour Shift and Hand Feel
A print that changes hue rather than losing intensity usually indicates a heat problem during production. A print area that feels stiff after washing points to too much pretreatment liquid or an excessive cure temperature. Testing by Print Method
The failure mode depends on the process. A sublimated print sits inside the fibre, so it resists cracking and peeling and mostly fails by fading. A direct to garment print relies on pretreatment and curing, so it fails at the bonding layer. What to Do When a Test Fails
Do not list the product, and do not assume the issue is unavoidable. Send the photographs and the wash count to your production partner with the specific garment and colour reference. A supplier that runs a controlled process can usually identify whether the cause was pretreatment volume, cure temperature or a fabric substitution, and correct it.
If the same product fails a second time after the correction, drop the combination.
